An Active Vacation

Preko has about 1286 inhabitants, and is rich in restaurants, market and in the city center is located Marina Preko as a picture from a postcard, given that it is a small but distinctive home to many anchored boats.

Although Preko abounds in many beaches, the largest is the sandy beach Jaz where the sea is so clean that the beach even has an Ecological Flag. The shallows stretch far during low tide, so parents can relax while the little ones enjoy the joys of the sea and explore the nearby playground.

Romantic church of St. Ivan from the 11th century on the east side of Preko, is a monument of medieval architecture that is definitely worth a visit, as well as the early Christian church of Gospe od Ružarija, positioned in the center of the place adorned with a marble baroque altar.

An important monument of history in Preko is the statue „Naša Mati“  which translades to „Our Mother“, dedicated to all women from Preko and to lavandijere (women who earned for a living by washing clothes for the gentleman of Zadar). The statue is positioned on the place where lavandijere have been washing clothes for years.

During your stay, the island of Galevac near Preko is also worth visiting, which the locals call Školjić. Skilled swimmers can easily swim to this island where the monastery of St. Pavle Pustinjak is located, which had many functions throughout the history, so it served as a high school and as a printing house "Jadran".
